La región más transparente, 2018
Montañera
This body of work originates from my interest in photography as a way to push documentary conventions into the realm of pictorial depiction. I reinterpret reality using elements of fiction and artifice to animate underlying power structures. I like to borrow narrative structures from Latin American storytelling and literature, while at the same time, questioning the very nature of narration. Who narrates? Who interprets? What is, and what is not part of the narrative? I am interested in acknowledging the subjectivities that permeate the act of representing —oneself, and the other— starting with the power imbalance inherent to the medium of photography that amplifies a larger social system of subtraction and editorializing.
